The Legislature earned mixed grades this year for its work on environmental bills, with a few big accomplishments that will protect Maine's environment, some additional small steps forward, and disappointing results elsewhere. NRCM is particularly pleased with passage of a bill that promotes “product stewardship.” We also commend lawmakers for their accomplishments in the areas of addressing toxic pollution and promoting renewable energy. Weaker grades were earned in the areas of protecting Maine's fisheries and reducing carbon pollution from future developments.
